Intro to garage floor covering options

Welcome to garage-floor.net!  Wanting to install garage floor coverings but can’t decide which one?  Saw someone else’s epoxy garage floor and wondering how to do it?  Well you’ve come to the right place!Your future garage

Installing some type of garage floor covering is the best way of maintaining that “new garage feel” while adding some flair to your garage floor.  When it comes to improving the look and durability of your garage, there are two main options: adding some type of garage floor tiling or painting on a protective layer of some type.

Tiling is usually the more expensive option, but there are many different tiling types so you can get the exact style that you want.  This is also the “no mess” solution.  Most times there aren’t any messy paints and/or epoxies to work with.  In the case of garage floor interlocking tiles, all you need to do is set them in place and forget it!  If you prefer a more flush option, there is also a peel and stick type of flooring.  Many people like this type of tiling because it gives you the flush feel of a paint or an epoxy but without the hassle of painting the flooring on.  All these tiling types come with styles ranging from clear vinyl to checker pattern to diamond tread patterns and they do a great job of protecting your floor as well!

The second type of garage flooring is a painted type of garage floor covering, sometimes called epoxy garage flooring.  Epoxy is similar to a paint or a glue applied to your garage floor.  This option is a bit more labor intensive but can result in a very nicely finished garage floor.  Epoxy garage floor coverings are extremely durable and should last you many years.  They help protect your concrete garage floors from oil spills, chips, cracks, and other types of wear and tear.  Epoxy generally comes standard in a few different colors, but your local hardware store can usually customize the color to your liking.  Since color mixing isn’t an exact science, be sure to get enough of the epoxy to finish the job or you run the risk of buying and applying two slightly different shades of the same color.  You also have the option of a clear-coat layer above the epoxy layer to give your garage extra shine.  Although many brands of clear coat have been taken off the shelves due to environmental concerns, there are still some brands available to buy.

No matter which option you choose, you’ll be on the right track to making your garage floor as pristine as the pros’.
